Before going on my career day with Jordan Garrett I was interested in seeing how to run a small business. I wanted to know the responsibility you need to be a business owner. When I shadowed Jordan Garrett I was able to ask questions. I was given tips on how to make good decisions. Later in the day I got to go to a job site and use some of the heavy equipment that his crew uses everyday. I enjoyed this part the most because I was working and learn how Jordan keeps his worker up to his expectations. There was also another part to his job, it was doing legal paperwork at home, payroll, making phone calls to the customer, and buying equipment and materials. I also was able to ask Mr. Garrett some interview questions. The most important question that I got to ask him wasWhat are the most important rules and practices that you must follow in order to be considered a dedicated and responsible professional? He gave me a one word answer and elaborated on it. His answer was empathy. Being able to understand people's emotions and to reflect based on them is the most important thing to be considered a professional in the workspace. Creating a relationship between your boss, coworkers, customers, etc... Will benefit you the most in the long run. The answer that he had given me had really struck me. The simplicity that one word could mean so much.Overall I was so appreciative that he had taken the time out of his day to show me what it is going to take to run a small business. Here is a picture of me inside of the piece of heavy machinery that they were using that day.
